Yale to Boston
This gallery starts with Yale, goes to the University of Rhode Island and then to Boston Part One.
Yale is quite an institution. The architecture is imposing. My host was Josh, from Brooklyn. We had great walks and talks. I explored the campus, sat in on several classes, made a presentation and enjoyed meeting a number of students. After a night at Yale, I took the train to Kingston, Rhode Island and was met at the station by Alyssa.
The setting was a good deal more rural, we went immediately to make the presentation. Again, nice to meet people including Amber who helped make arrangements and lives nearby. I stayed a night with Alyssa and her nearby suburban family. Just about everyone lifts weights. Very much appreciated hospitality. Special thanks to Alyssa and parents Lisa and David for support when I learned my elder cat pal Zora had died back in Eugene. This was the low point for the trip.
In the morning, I borrowed David's bike and rode to campus to make a presentation to Richard's landscape architecture class and also visited Tyler's food forest project. Even threw the frisbee on campus for a bit. Then a bus to Providence and train to Boston for two days at the downtown Youth Hostel. Very nice hostel.
I made a presentation to a group of MIT urban design grad students and enjoyed an awesome sunset during a long walk back to the hostel along the Esplanade and Public Garden.
After two days at the hostel, I took my gear to Cambridge and met Sarah in person. She works at the Democracy Center and organized the presentation in Cambridge. Before the presentation, I had a look around Cambridge and Harvard. It was a nice Saturday with loads of people in downtown Cambridge and on campus. The presentation went well, lots of chat before and after.
After the presentation, I rode with Allison to her home in Roxbury where I would stay for a couple nights and make a presentation. Allison, who organized the presentation in Jamaica Plain and her pal Dane and I rode bikes around Roxbury and Jamaica Plain on a chilly moring and checked out a number of sites of community interest.
