Boston Part Two
Next day I borrowed a bike and enjoyed a full day of site seeing on my own. I rode from Roxbury to Cambridge to see Farrin's art exhibit at Harvard. Was great to see her work up close in real life. Farrin's Persian sensitivity is in full view with her detailed art work, based on Persian sensitivities of nature and spirituality.
The ride continued back to downtown along the Charles River to Beacon Hill, a fascinating historic neighborhood full of federalist style architecture. I loved the quiet car free cul de sac walk ways and landscaping. I returned again to the River, meandered thru town to Copely Square and its great variety of architecture. Near Copely Square is where the South West Park Corridor comes to an end in downtown. I had biked at the other end of this five mile corridor. In 1973, a planned freeway was officially cancelled due to local opposition and instead, there is a beautifully designed park with bike ways, play grounds, community gardens and rail line. A great community success story for stopping a huge freeway. I returned to Allison and Dean's place in Roxbury. That was big day of biking.
But no rest as that evening was the presentation at Spontaneous Celebrations. It was a fun evening. Several community groups tabling. Lots of munchies, mixing and mingling. A well planned event.
Next morning up early and a small plane to Green Mountain College.
