Barcelona, captions and comments soon.  What a city!  Very dense. Love the balconies.  Lots of trees.  Very nice bike lanes.

A funny story.  A couple days ago, Toni and I were both doing computer stuff at the same dining room table. Theres a foto below of the place.  I am writing an e mail in Italian to a permaculture group in Sardegna I would like to visit.  Somehow, the computer recognizes you are writing in a certain language so I am writing in Italian with Italian spell check.  Its like making my Italian look a lot better than it really is,,, spelling mostly.  I commented to Toni, saying, wow, my Italian looks pretty good with this computer help.  Toni laughed and said, thats why his English looks so good when he would write to me.  He wrote to me with English spell check so that made his English look a good bit better than it actually is, just like my Italian.  We had a good laugh!  Computer enhanced language skills.

Most people here in Barcelona speak Catalan.  Its not a dialect of Spanish, similar like Italian and Spanish.  Suzy does not speak any English but because I know fair amount of Italian and some Spanish, we find common words.  Its amazing how much info even a few common words can deliver given a particular situation or context.  We took a big hike to day up into the hills, its park and open space and we identified and shared a lot even with limited number of common words.

Having such a good time in Barcelona.  I love the neighborhood piazzas. Narrow streets, very few cars.  And Toni and Suzy's hospitality.  Just had an awesome Sunday sea food dinner with their son who came for dinner.  Fun multi lingual conversation.  Oregon is half the size of Spain and Spain is one of Europe's largest countries.

And praise for medical pharmacology.  My voice is coming back.
