New Page of Toulon and French Coast, more to come
I had a wonderful time in Barcelona. It was great to finally meet Toni in person and his wife Sumpta. We had many great conversations, meals, walking in the neighbohood, hike to the nearby hills, learning about the superblocks with Rocco and plane old sight seeing.
I was up at 4, cautiously early, to make the 6:00 train on time. I left the home to cool and deserted Calle Verdi. No one out. I meandered my way easily to the 3km distant Sants train station.
You see a lot of the Med passing into France. I met a couple from Grenoble, France who were bike riding. They took early retirement even as their friends advised against it saying they would be bored without their jobs. The couple is happy with their decision.
I had a number of train changes. Marseilles is huge.
The plan in Toulon was from Servas host Alain to meet me at the station. Gratefully, we connected easily. We are similar years and both into bikes.
Exciting to be in Toulon. I had been in Toulon, picked up at the train station by friends, 40 years earlier. This visit, I would stay in Toulon.
We biked a few km on regular city streets, no bike lanes, the several km to Alain's unusual location. He has a small RV. For the former grade school principle, he has been one of two places for the past 11 years of retirement, parked next to the automatic car wash on the acres of parking for the carefour big box store. Or, Alain would put the RV in sorage and be out for a multi thousand km ride on his heavily loaded recombent.
