Fotos are fun to share!
Of course, the 3 months in Europe was the big story for me. Below are a number of fotos from that trip. If you would like to see more fotos of Europe, here is a link to a series of narrated slide shows on you tube. Lots more fotos. Also below, there are fotos of Eugene, visits from friends, my place, various activities.
My place takes a lot of time. I can climb in trees I planted 20 years ago. I rarely buy fruit or veggies. I store by freezing, drying, ambient temps, in the ground. My lemon tree is bigger than ever. I am hoping to have almonds now with my 3 year old almond about ready to do some pollination. Hoping to improve olive production with the new olive tree.
A favorite past time is frisbee. Not ultimate but simply heaving the friz, curvy throws using the wind. I met a guy at U of Oregon a year ago and Zach is the best frisbee thrower I have ever played with and that says a lot. Scott, Victor, Paul are all great with the friz but Zach is really really good. When school is in session, we throw once every week or two. Its full on 50, 60 yard throws for me and Zach runs back another 20 yards further for his throws.
I continue with my radio program - Creating A Preferred Future. Its all about paradigm shift. More reasons than ever. Another current project has the title "Primer For Paradigm Shift." Its the best info I have and organized to be a sort of "how to" for paradigm shift. The first of 4 parts is now on youtube. Here's a link for more.
Also very much enjoyed the visit this past September with Dee and Terry Buck. Best friends from Texas. We had been pals for years protesting a nuclear power plant near Ft. Worth and lots of other shared interests and activities. With Dee's brother now living in Portland, I am hoping they spend more time in the Northwest. Pals Nancy and Terry from SF are up this way for bike tours. My brother David made a surprise visit for an afternoon in October. Great to have some time together.
A bike is my primary transportation around town. Always veggie, close to vegan. Educational projects are great exercise for the brain.
Went to the coast a couple times. My pal Teresa and I visited my nephew Scott, Molly and Hattie in nearby Salem. So nice to visit. Hattie is off the charts cute, smart, funny, very interactive. The family now includes new born Mabel. They will be moving to Arkansas to be closer to both sets of parents. I am sorry to see them go.
Trip to Europe was one of the best 3 months of my life. My interest in urban land use was one of the main reason, to see what pushing back on cars can look like. I visited several cities and towns that are known for pushing back on cars - Amsterdam, Groningen, Houten, Vauban Neighborhood in Freiberg, Germany; Paris, Barcelona. I just love public places that are for bikes and pedestrians. Even better, promenades along the sea or lake - in Italian, lungomare and lungolaghi - along the sea, along the lakes.
I bought a bike the third day I was in Europe and had the bike with me the whole time, putting it on trains, buses, ferries and also having just the most fun with some extended bike rides. Having the bike was simply essential.
I belong to a peace organization named Servas. Members all over the world so I had people to visit in places I wanted to go. Made great friends, learned about local conditions. Improving my Italian was another motive. Talking with someone in another language is so much fun. Lots more work to do with Italian. The fotos below have captions so more info about Europe with the fotos. You can enlarge the foto.
The world. I am an optimist but I see no easy exit from current conditions. I cheer for Ukraine but would would love to see an entire country commit itself to a sustainable way of life with an honest and ethical economic system with uplifted goals. My own quarter acre suburban permaculture refuge rates as probably the best action I have made in my life and there have been a lot. Home production of food, energy, water, aesthetics. To me, its a preview of a preferred future and I am glad there are many others all over the country and world with similar ideals and projects.
I would love to hear from friends!
Here are the fotos. They are in chronological order. Home, Europe, Home again. Again, you can enlarge the fotos and read the captions.
