This gallery is Part One of a road trip September 16 to October 4, from Eugene to Lawrence, Kansas.  I had a family occasion to attend, seeing cousins I had not even spoken with for over 50 years.  When I checked the cost of flying and renting a car, I thought, that would pay the cost of gas for a road trip.  So I drove close to 4000 miles.

The trip was fairly direct but checking out places between here and there I did not know played an important role in the itinerary.  Plus, I don't much like the interstate highways.  I also wanted to see friends unseen for over a decade.  By far most of the trip I did solo, sleeping on a plywood deck in the back of my pickup truck which has a camper top and steel racks above the camper top.  See fotos.

I took two bicycles and a kayak.  Carried a good deal of my own food because Eugene is a very good place for buying healthy food.  I stayed with friends and nephew and did several presentations about suburban permaculture at the University of Utah, Kansas University and in town in Lawrence, Kansas.  I drove through Salt Lake City, Denver and Topeka,,, on the return through northwestern Nebraska, Casper Wyoming and Yellowstone.  See the map below.

It was a great adventure, a privilege [or curse] to burn up so much gas.
