2014 was the year of the carbon footprint.

There were are lot of occasions that called for travel.  Weddings, seeing friends, goofing off.  I also made a lot of presentations about suburban permaculture. Kansas, Utah, Hawaii.

There are a lot of fotos simply for the beautiful landscapes, near and far.

You can hover the cursor over the foto for a caption or clik on the foto for a larger view and caption.

The winter of '14 was the coldest in 40 years.  Several days down to single digits.  We had two snowfalls over 5 inches.  First time I have seen that much snow in 22 years living in Eugene.

That was Hawaii.  In May, I went to Texas for the wedding of Nephew Bryan and now neice in law Sue.  That was at my brother's property north and west of Ft. Worth, almost to Oklahoma.
In June, I took a train to Santa Cruz, Cal to meet up with friend Karen.  On the train, I ran into another friend, Marjorie who lives in Santa Cruz but visits Eugene. Karen and I drove to Tom and Cindy's in the Arkansas Ozarks for a Summer Solstice Party.  I continued on to Washington DC to spend some time with college best friend, Victor and his family.  Then to NYC and nearby Mawah, New Jersey to the wedding of Farrin and Rob.  I stayed a couple days with Tom and Cindy's daughter, Jenna and her husband Arun.  Then to eastern Long Island with friend Scott and his family in Hampton Bays.  Then big day of travel returning to DC for another five days with Victor.  It was quite a trip!
Back in Eugene.  Great to have Molly and Scott visit. New housemates.  Garden and harvest time.
Road trip.  In September and October, I drove from Eugene to Lawrence, Kansas and then returned a different way to Eugene.  This was an awesome trip.  Main reason for the trip was a sort of family reunion with cousins not seen for fifty years.  The trip was embellished with all kinds of fun.
After returning to Eugene from Kansas, the travel binge looks to be over.  As the days grow shorter, and wetter, its a good time for an indoor project so I have started writing a book.  Notes From The Suburban Frontier.  Something I have had in mind for a couple years.  The book will describe what can be done with suburbia to mitigate its social/economic/environmental footprint.  Making a garden is great but there is so much more that can be done to a suburban property and neighborhood.  I will use my place and neighborhood to explain how automobiles have degraded the environment, community and culture and how much of that damage can be repaired.

More information under the "writings" pull down tab above,,, choose  Notes,,,,,,,  This will take you to the draft preface.

Also great news in the closing days of 2014, the decision has been made to locate the 2015 Northwest Regional Permaculture Convergence in River Road.  My neighborhood.  This will be an awesome event.  Lots to show and tell in the neighborhood, Eugene and nearby.  The event will take place at the River Road Park Recreation Center.  August 28, 29, 30.

Home life goes well.  Great housemates.  Lemon tree is awesome with tons of ripening lemons.  Freezers full of food.  Ducks in the playoffs.
