Work Trade
Hi and thank you for your interest in work trade.
The Convergence takes a lot of effort and work trade is important. Work trade is a way to mitigate the cost of attending the convergence, be a part of the event, meet people and build skills. Maybe you are a future work trade coordinator or even conference coordinator! Some work trade tasks can be done before the convergence. Some require some skill, others are simply doing a simple task you are asked.
Work trade means you are trading to offset the cost of registration. Four hours of work trade covers half the registration cost. Eight hours covers all of registration. Registration for the entire event is $125 and that includes meals. That works out to about $15 per hour.
Work trade tasks include kitchen work, set up the day of the convergence, site upkeep - helping out during the convergence, sign making, looking for stuff or tracking someone down. Unplanned needs. These tasks are mostly doing tasks another person asks you to do.
Several tasks do require some skill like sign making or managing digital projectors.
Please fill out the work trade form, see link below. This will answer many of your questions. We want to make use of your skills and we want you to be excited about helping out!
Here is how work trade fits in. Each event coordinator will be asked how many and what kinds of work trade people they need. The work trade coordinator matches event needs with work trade people. Some work trade tasks for some people will be set before the convergence, some will tasks will take be on site and at the moment.
Important. Work trade requires accountability from everyone. Past experience has lead us to insure work trade accountability in this way -
We will ask work trade people to write a check for the full cost of registration and to mail that check to the work trade coordinator. At the end of the convergence, we ask you to have your event coordinator [the person you worked with like kitchen or set up] sign a voucher that you did complete your work trade commitments. You then take the voucher to the work trade coordinator and s/he will return your uncashed check.
Good! So now, please fill out the work trade form. Here it is.
Thanks!
