Here are some videos from the 2024 visit to Alghero. The first several are from xmas eve day. Several km south from Alghero. the swell is larger here than in Alghero because Capo Caccia does not block the northwest swell south of town as much as it does in town. These first several videos are all from the same location. Its a very rugged coast line. This spot is just off the road to Bosa. There is also audio. You might be able to hear the awesome sound made by some of the larger collapsing waves. A cross between a clap and a thud. Actually, quite loud in person.
Looking to the right past the medium distance point, you can see a bit of Alghero. The larger sets had wave faces, just before breaking of 10 to 12 feet. There is a serious back wash. especially to the left. I stayed here for a couple hours untill sun set. Awesome 15 minute bike ride returning to Alghero.

Below is a video of Alghero's lungomare on xmas day. Temps are cool. There are quite a few people out walking. This is one of my favorite places in the world. A public place, a view of the sea, few cars. This video just after sunset.
The video below is the heart of Alghero. Not necessarily the most scenic location but this is where the main street Ts into the lungomare, the sea side promenade. Much of this area is for pedestrians but there are cars moving through the middle of it, all be it at slow speed. The Med is directly behind the start of this 180 degree view. This video was made during the xsmas/New Years holiday so there are more people than usual for the winter time. During the summer, there are even more people. This location has a number of sidewalk cafes and restaurants. The lungomare goes south and north. This site is a major intersection for both cars and people walking.
This video shows the urban density of Alghero. Most of Alghero is apartments with a lot of parked cars. This particular street is typical. Nothing remarkable. Some areas are newer, some older,,, this area somewhat newer,, probably 20 years old more or less. Its further out from centro. It just shows what urban density looks like. The street in front of my apartment looks similar. Cars and apartment buildings.
The video below is the big rock concert for New Year's. Giant stage, totally up scale production. The band was a favorite. Tons of smoke. I had to detox. Not my kind of music but it was great to see what a lot of Italians consider a good time.
The video below is the south end of the lungomare. The opening view is the coastline south from Alghero and the most spectacular drive to 25 mile distant Bosa. I like going to this place, its almost all locals here, its not the glam part of the lungomare. But like the entire lungomare, awesome view of the Med. From here, I can bike for 15 minutes and be to the site of the next video. Totally out of town. The wave videos above were taken 15 minutes south of here. You can see the road to Bosa in the distance.
Video below is the same location as those above with the big crashing waves. Just about all the Med views include capo caccia. I have been on my bike all over the place around those distant hills.
Video below is from the old town lungo mare. Many of the buildings are 100s of years old though many are upgraded. Still many look to be pretty old with some plaster coming down. A nice concession to time and character. Some people live in these places. Wow! This centro vecchio lungomare is one of my very top places in the world. Thats capo caccia in the distance. An unusal period of unsettled weather. In the summer time, this lungo mare is packed with people and many cafes and restaurants.
Video below is a birthday party for Dani. I met her at public presentation about how climate change will affect the plant life of Sardegna. Dani is quite a character. She was a ski babe, traveled Hindi style in India. Lived off grid for 17 years. She keeps up with her former husband, a former olympic skier who does color commentary on TV following Italian skiers to global competitions. From the street, one sees the 5 story nigh facades of apartments, these ones probably 50 to 80 years old,, just a guess, this is not an old part of town but it is closer to centro. But in the back, ground floor apts have small open spaces. Dani has done a lot with her space. Great party. Very nice people and lots of sea food and alcohol. I visited the guy in the red shirt on his sail boat. I had a hard time understanding him, I thought because there was a good bit of noise at the party. Turns out he's French so his Italian is with a heavy French accent. In a more quiet place, we had a nice visit on his 10 m boat.
This video, below, is at the small property a friend owns with other friends. Its about 15 miles east of Alghero. Very
typical landscape for this part of Sardegna. Many many acres of olive trees with lots of small nearby hills
with larger hills in the distance. This was a work part day, burning the prunings of the olive trees. Emi and
her friends want to restore this 6 or 8 acres to good health. There is very amazing small structure on the
site. We had a great work party, so fun to work with others and make new friends. Just a great day. We
left and rejoined in the nearby town for more socializing and beer.

This bike ride. I have been here before, Its just so spectacular. I take the bus with my bike to Villanova and
head west from town, past a roadside shrine and big trough of spring water. Small roads, gravel roads, sheep,
shome cows,,, lots of cork oaks, eventually to the paved road that loses 1200 feet of elevation down and down
to the road between Alghero and Bosa.

Video below. Rode the bike towards Capo Caccia and Porto Conte Regional Park. Its a large protected scenic
and natural area. I wanted to explore and knew there are some awesome views from sea cliffs out to the Med.
Turns out the park was closed and the gates closed. I told some forestry workers I biked all the way from
Alghero to see the park. No good. Not to worry, I went to a gate in a different place and found a low place in
the fence and lifted my bike over the fence and was in the park on a gravel road. My first destination was
Cala Barca. The video. Super stoked,, just an awesome view. I had to leave the bike to walk the last 100 yards
or so but praised the bike for its dependability, my access to this place was the bike. So I totally enjoyed the
view for half an hour or so. Came back to the bike and it had a flat. Change in plans. I was maybe 10 miles
from Alghero in the boondocks. All I could do was start walking. I walked well over an hour, return to the paved
road, tried to hitch hike. And a van stopped, a young family from Slovakia. They moved a lot of stuff around in
their van to make room for the bike. They were very nice, spoke very good English and delivered me to in font
of the aprt. Perfect! A happy ending! The family was in Alghero for a couple days. I suggested Cala Gonone
on the east side of Sardegna,,, that was already their destination. The guy was into rock climbing. Fun!

Another view of waves south of Alghero.. I have actually done a LOT of wave watching. I knew there were waves
and so there are. This vid partly on my bike.
