"Practical Examples and Actions For Creating An Eco Logical Lifestyle and Culture" in collaboration with Lane Community College's Continuing Education Program.
The course is not for credit. The course will feature content seldom if ever found in a public education institution - critical of mainstream economics, lifestyle and culture but positive, practical and timely.

Course Description - Practical Examples and Actions For Creating An Eco Logical Lifestyle and Culture
This timely coursework will include a free overview presentation followed by five classroom sessions concluded by an on site tour with design workshop. One can register for any or all of the classroom sessions and on site tour with workshop. Note, the on site tour with workshop will be a much more meaningful experience if one attends the class room sessions as well. All classes use slide shows.
April 8 - Free Overview Presentation of Practical Actions For An Eco Logical Lifestyle and Culture
The free presentation will preview the entire series of classes and site tour with workshop. It will touch on the social, economic and environmental premises of the coursework and explain the concept of one earth lifestyle. The overview will include a short look at transforming a suburban property, permaculture sites in the Northwest, allies, actions and assets and pushing back on cars. It will also preview the site tour and explain class projects relating to transforming one's own lifestyle and property.
April 15 - Class One - Premises for an Eco Logical Lifestyle
This class will provide context for why practicing an eco logical lifestyle is more important than ever. The focus will be current social, economic and environmental conditions, local and global. We will learn about external costs, economic efficiency and examine junk food, social disequity, climate change and suburbia to explain aspects of our economic system. We will identify the multiple benefits to be gained by living a more eco logical lifestyle. Questions, comments, discussion. Class projects explained.
April 22 - Class Two - One Earth Lifestyle Meets Transforming A Suburban Property
What is a one earth lifestyle and why is it important. Useful concepts that support a one earth lifestyle such as wisdom of the world's great spiritual traditions, permaculture, key leverage point, progressive metrics, Eugene and State of Oregon Planning Goals, personal priorities and values. Then, what can these concepts look like applied to a suburban property for reducing the eco footprint and taking care of more basic needs closer to home - food, energy, water, aesthetics. April 29 - Class Three - Allies and Assets In The Community
What allies, assets and actions do we have for bringing about an eco logical lifestyle and culture? Assets - our own lives, time, homes, values, priorities and potentials. Allies - schools, faith groups, city programs, non profits and ad hoc groups. Actions - descriptions of many real life personal and group initiatives. No permission or legislation needed. A closer look at site tours, the River Road/Santa Clara Neighborhood Plan, Common Ground Garden. Block Planning. Questions, comments, discussion.
May 6 - Class Four - Permaculture Sites In The Northwest
A review of sites from home scale to eco villages that point the way towards a more eco logical culture and economy. We will start in Eugene with virtual visits to Dharmalaya, East Blair Housing Co-op, Duma and Maitreya Eco Village. Then Portland taking a look at City Repair, Kailash Eco Village and Columbia Co Housing. Also an explanation of Block Planning and a look at N Street Co-op in Davis, California.

May 13 - Class Five - Pushing Back on Cars
The automobile is among the most iconic artifacts of out time. They are also one of the most destructive inventions in human history. This class will focus on the problems with cars, as a product of our economic system. And then, how people, even cities all over the world are pushing back on cars by way of critical mass bike rides, parking day, parklets, community plazas and freeway fights. Then focus on cities reclaiming car space and designing new space for public health and livability - Copenhagen, Houten, Gent, Vauban Neighborhood, Barcelona.

May 16 - Saturday 11 to 3 - On Site Tour and Workshop
Visit to Jan's suburban permaculture property in River Road. We will have a look at trading grass for garden, driveway removal, remodel garage and build accessory dwelling, patio to passive solar, 6500 gal rain water catchment system, multi level edible landscape, aesthetics and more. Benefits to be gained. Workshop - class projects - an hour or so for participants to work on designs to transform their own homes, property and lifestyles. Attendance to previous classes recommended but not required
