Welcome to Suburban Permaculture

This website contains useful and practical information about transforming residential properties and neighborhoods towards a culture and economy closer to home, safer, more secure and uplifting.

The "Site Now and Then" tab above left shows many before and now fotos of my place, organized by category.

"Tour of the Property" is a sequential tour of the property with images from the Summer of 2010 and Spring of 2011.

"Posters and DVD" links to the pdf posters that are also for sale in hard copy, delivered by US mail. These posters are "slideshows in poster form", concise and colorful, that describe real life examples of social and economic transformation being made by suburban pioneers.

"Features" contains a foto tour of nearby neighbors, several foto essays, foto galleries and more.

"Speaking and Events" is a calendar of events related to transforming suburbia.

"Interviews and Media" are videos and interviews directly related to transforming suburbia.

Thoughts on Suburbia

Suburbia and permaculture are a perfect fit.

Both the infrastructure and the people who live in suburbia, have enormous potentials to meet the deepening challenges of our time. Its the economy, the environment, climate change, peak oil, global relations, natural resource depletion and more.

The concerns of this website are also culture and values. We will not have a peaceful and healthy world as long as corporate capitalism as we know it defines our society's values, goals, ideals and culture. Our political system does not exist to solve problems, rather to manage them for profit. Its safe to say, the political system is a subsidiary of the economic system.

Imagine what our economy would look like if its purpose was to serve the higher aspirations of an uplifted people and culture.

There are other choices to be made and we have many many tools to work with. Some of those tools are straight from the mainstream. As the economy declines and more people seek alternatives, we will increasingly recognize tools and assets to work with that have been with us all the time. We will be making surprising use of the familiar in new ways! "Features" above and the Posters describe a number of those tools, allies and strategies.

Positive human potential is likely our greatest renewable resource.

A core goal for these changes is to live far more within what planet earth can safely provide and to shift our society's fundamental direction towards a way of life, culture, value system and economy that nurtures the best in human potential, as individuals, families and communities.

This webpage is intended to encourage, advocate and offer practical examples and approaches for actively and purposefully moving towards a more local, peaceful and uplifted culture and economy.
