Part 2 - GTLC Road Trip Part Two

Sacramento, Davis, Nevada City

Approaching Sacramento. I came close to having a major wreck.

Bill making introductions in Sacramento at the Sol Collective.

Fly to the store for bread? This was hard to believe. Cameron Park, near Placerville. A neighborhood with planes in the garage.

Spare a cup of oil? This foto takes the cake for "what me worry?" The air strip is just to the right of this house.

Evening fire dancing in Davis. This was a very nice scene downtown.

N St Co Housing in Davis. Almost the entire suburban block has taken down its fences. There is a community house, kitchen and common area.

Common area at N St. A remarkable suburban retrofit.

Community playground at Village Homes, also in Davis. Note huge fig trees.

Community gardens at Village Homes. Village Homes is perhaps the most attractive suburban development I know of.

Streets are more like shared driveways. Where there would be backyard fences, you find a very friendly sidewalk between properties instead. Imagine taking out a "normal suburban street and leaving only enough space for emergency vehicles, maybe 6 feet wider than this, and reclaim the cleared space for edible landscaping.

There are no fences. Lots of passive solar architecture. Edible landscaping all over. Swales keep runoff on site to build the water table.

Lots of bikes at UC Davis. Davis can boast of being very bike friendly both on and off campus.

Jan meets Megan. I had spoken with Megan on the phone weeks before. I did not know her before the phone call, she helped inform students about the presentation I made in Davis. By random chance, we met at the garden for several student housing co -ops. Megan lives in one of the co-ops. We had a great laugh when we discovered who we were.

The Domes at UC Davis. Not so conventional student housing. There are maybe 8 domes. Much green space.

Inside one of the domes. Pretty funky but it has an appeal.

Nevada City Co Housing. I visited Cathe' here. Looks very nice.

Hiking along the Yuba River with Cathe'. Beautiful!

Apple Center for promoting living more eco friedly in Nevada City.

Up on the "Ridge" at North San Juan. Presentation for permaculture enthusiasts.

Wonder whats inside,,,,,

Its a remarkable workshop for crafting custom electric guitars.

Janaia and Robyn at home. Yuba Gals doing Peak Moment TV. Bears and cougar for company.
